Freshman Learning Communities (FLCs) are a potential source of funding. They are two courses taught in tandem--so our Gen Ed Core Course could be taught in tandem with another Freshman level course. I think this would be an exctiting way both to fund the program and to get young students excited and knowledgeable about the field early in their college careers. Freshman Learning Communities are two or more classes that are taught together. •One of them is a Freshman Seminar, a small class with a unique theme. •The Freshman Seminar is linked with another course (Freshman English, Public Speaking, Introductory Studies Reading, or another). •These classes are taught using cooperative and collaborative learning methods that engage you as an active, involved learner, with a minimum amount of “lecture”. •The discussions, readings, problems, papers, and presentations of the Freshman Seminar and the linked course are integrated and unified. •Twenty-five freshmen take the two classes together and work together in the classes.
